Ara left a cushy job in the interior design industry because she had a great idea. She wanted to make informed design accessible to more people and move on to a new industry that is full of beauty, creative design, and hopes and dreams: weddings.
After spending five great years in New York City (and one in London) creating custom, handmade interior products for extremely high-end clients and launching a showroom on 5th Avenue for de Gournay, Ara was a leader in her field, and also ready for a change. This experience was an irreplaceable education on color, style, cohesive design elements, spatial relationships, lighting, providing five star customer service, and opening a business. She remains grateful that during this time she was lucky enough to work with the most inspiring and exciting interior designers of today, from Kelly Wearstler and Michael S. Smith to Charlotte Moss and Diamond Baratta.
But Ara knew she wanted to create a way to do great design, and not make it just for the elite. Rock Paper Scissors Events began when she was sought after by her friends for design advice when planning their own weddings, and she saw a huge hole in the industry for affordable professional advice. So she created a new role that offered design advice instead of coordination to make informed design approachable and accessible to those who couldn’t afford a full planner. And she hasn’t looked back since.
Ara grew up with the ideal to do some good in this world during her childhood in Arizona. She has an adventurous spirit that has led her to live in Los Angeles, London, and currently New York City. You’ll recognize in Ara the best of both coasts; a warm, sunny disposition with the sophistication and ambition of her current city. Besides design, she loves spontaneous adventures and exotic travel, her huge family, her amazing circle of friends, and when clients become friends.
